The Pantomime was formed to create a community enterprise linked to the "new" Community Centre. An advertisement was placed in the local paper for volunteers. The stage was made from potato boxes and pallets from a local farm.
Paint, props, costumes and material were begged and borrowed, and "The Buckingham Community Pantomime" was underway.
The community spirit has continued over the years and is as strong today as it was in 1984.
A production these days involves a cast and crew of over 100 made up of a wide variety of people drawn from all parts of the town, ranging from raw beginners to budding stars on stage and a production crew of enthusiastic volunteers from all walks of life. Some have been involved for many years but each year brings a crop of new faces eager to join in the fun.
The Community Pantomime has become an essential highlight of the Buckingham Town's social calendar and the Saturday matinee performance always sells out in advance.
Profits from each production are distributed to local projects.
